College and Career Counselling -

College and Career Counselling

Heritage International Xperiential School has invested in and incubated one of the most successful and robust career and college counselling & placement cells in the country. The team has strategically established relationships with admissions offices of top global and Indian colleges/universities and enabled our students to have access to some of the most prestigious colleges and universities; both in India as well as abroad.

The importance of career and college counselling is interspersed through high school and is regarded as a continuum at HIXS. The school stands apart in this area and has an excellent track record. Career and College Counselling at HIXS’s primary goal is to help in enabling students achieve their potential aligned with their interests, passions and aspirations. We believe that a student should transition from school into a college/university as a continuation of the learning they have so far acquired in school and a logical extension of her growth – curriculars, co-curriculars and personal development.

HIXS provides a safe, non-judgmental space for the students and all their stakeholders holistically. Students and parents have easy access to approach the team. They are free to engage in conversations to understand the subject selection, career streams and college application and admissions processes. These are mainly carried through individual and group counselling sessions in school. We work with students and their families by identifying the student’s interest areas, learning style, courses/programmes of interest, geographical inclinations, grades, professorship and financial ability to find the best fit universities. The aim is to build student and parent knowledge through extensive group interactions, workshops and one-on-one counselling sessions for the senior programme students. We strive to ensure not merely that our students secure admissions at elite institutions of higher learning, but they thrive through their undergrad experience and beyond. We also invite our alumni students and families to connect with our current students and share their experiences to build a community of learners.

Through extensive research on universities, geographies, programmes, courses, professors and the interest of our students, we host prestigious universities on our campus to understand our school’s philosophy, speak to our parents and students. We continuously apprise our students about college and university visits in the NCR area and encourage them to visit such gatherings and meets on a regular basis.

College Readiness - An overview of Career and College Counselling Process at HIXS

The four-year career and college counselling programme entails a customised plan for each student based on their skills, aptitudes, interests, personality, goals and aspirations. The team works closely with parents through personalized sessions, orientation to the programme, pertinent group sessions and customised workshops. The career and college counselling calendar is aligned with the university timelines along with several interactions through the year with university officials and admission teams. Conversations with alumni network, engagement with the enrichment programmes, researching, offering observership with the different organizations are some of the activities the students are encouraged to experience during their breaks. A plethora of related co-curriculars is also extended to students. With an aim to build the mindset of strategic portfolio, the Career and College Counselling team works thoroughly to enhance a student’s individual profile through the years. Our dedicated Counsellors help in navigating student’s journey in school thus ensuring a smooth transition from school to college. Students of grades 9-12 are encouraged to diligently follow the outlined course of action for optimal academic and personal growth.

Grade 9: In grade 9, students are guided to develop and pursue their intellectual interests, concentrate on academics, build strong study and work habits, and select co-curricular activities that enrich their lives and support college applications in future. The importance and relevance of academic performance is shared with students since these contribute significantly to their overall academic profile and personal development.

Grade 10: Students should continue to develop their academic skills and interests while remaining dedicated to their curricular and co-curricular endeavours. It is important to identify at least one passion among these activities; participate proactively in school initiatives like clubs, sports, visual and performing arts, robotics, book reading or follow their hobbies on a regular basis. It is compulsory for all students to attend in-house counsellor led workshops, university fairs, university visits, events, career specific sessions, university faculty led workshops and presentations. Students are provided with a wide range of opportunities to engage throughout the academic year, including participation in summer programs and related activities.

Grade 11:
It is important for students to recognize that Grade 11 overall performance contributes significantly to the student’s profile and individual academic pursuits. It provides university admission offices with information about the trends and directions a student aspires to take, projecting their interests, acumen, and passion in various subject areas.
Majority of university/college admissions are based on holistic performance of students therefore it becomes crucial for students to focus on their strengths, stronger subject domains and work on the challenges. While it is imperative to work on the academics it is also extremely critical to understand that the key to overcoming the challenges students must develop life skills like communication, interpersonal relations, time management and self-discipline. Students’ personal habits, social and personal values, approach to learning; collectively contribute to enriching their individual profiles.

Following activities could be considered to propel the learnings:
  • Research universities and courses using resources provided by the career and college counselling office.
  • Begin attending individual counselling sessions throughout the first and second term of Grade 11.
  • Attend career and college counselling sessions organized in school and outside school when recommended by the CCC team.
  • Start planning winter or summer activities and university visits (optional) for better understanding of subject streams and career fields.

  • Attend workshops organized by CCC Team that help understand college application and admission processes.
  • Attend workshops on essay writing in school.
  • Take standardized tests like SAT/ ACT/Advanced Placement (optional)
We encourage students to diligently follow these guidelines to maximize their potential and achieve their academic and personal goals.

Grade 12: This is a predominantly crucial period in a student’s academic journey as they decide on their field of study for college and determine their college applications strategy, whether it be early action, early decision, or regular decision, it is essential to apply to multiple universities to maximize the higher educational opportunities.
Students are required to be organized and thorough in meeting deadlines, writing essays, statements of purpose, and submitting university applications to institutions that align well with their academic and personal goals.
We encourage students to stay focused and proactive during this crucial time to ensure a smooth transition from school to college.
