The strength of a school lies not only in the quality of its educational practices, but also in its ability to build meaningful partnerships with the community it serves. At HIXS a leading IB School in Gurgaon, we are consciously evolving our approach to parent engagement—from a largely transactional model of communication and issue resolution towards a more strategic partnership grounded in shared expertise, constructive dialogue and a collective commitment to student development.
An analysis of parent communications reflects this evolution. Where approximately 80% of communications previously centred on concerns or issues, during the 2025–26 academic year, approximately 80% have been positive, constructive or appreciative. While this shift is encouraging, its significance lies not simply in the numbers, but in the changing nature of the conversation. We continue to value critical feedback; equally, we are creating more opportunities for dialogue that informs, challenges and advances our thinking as a school.
A key expression of this approach is the establishment of two Parent Expert Groups, focused on Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) and enrichment, and Artificial Intelligence in Education. These groups bring together relevant professional expertise from our parent community to help us examine emerging possibilities, broaden our perspectives and identify opportunities to enrich our students’ learning experiences.
The principle underpinning this initiative is important: parent partnership should extend beyond participation to become a meaningful source of institutional insight and collective learning. At the same time, educational leadership and decision-making remain firmly with the school’s professionals, ensuring that external perspectives complement pedagogical expertise and remain aligned with students’ best interests.
For an International School in Gurgaon like HIXS, we see this as an opportunity to build a more mature model of school–parent collaboration—one that combines professional judgement with diverse external perspectives, encourages constructive challenge and supports continuous improvement.
Ultimately, the value of this partnership will be measured by what it makes possible for our students: richer learning experiences, more meaningful opportunities and an education that continues to evolve in response to a changing world.
That is the purpose that brings us together, and the principle that will guide this work forward.
